The Greeley Fire Department Hazardous Materials Response Team is a regional response team that’s committed to providing a rapid and effective response to any hazardous materials incident, ensuring the protection of life, property, and the environment.
Hazardous materials are manufactured, stored, and transported throughout Northern Colorado. Therefore, the team is dedicated to responding to incidents involving dangerous or hazardous chemicals in both the City of Greeley and throughout Northern Colorado. Currently, there are over 11,000 facilities in Weld County that have reportable quantities of Hazardous Materials including explosives, gases, flammable solids/liquids, oxidizers, poisons, radiological, corrosives, and unknowns.
Our highly trained firefighters are equipped to handle a wide range of hazardous materials situations, including chemical facility incidents, transportation accidents, and any situation where chemicals are outside of their intended containers and pose a threat to life, property, and the environment.
Our team members undergo specialized training in identifying, isolating, containing, confining, and mitigating hazardous materials. They are certified at the Hazardous Materials Technician level through the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control and receive ongoing specialized training every month to stay up to date with the latest techniques and protocols.
The Hazardous Materials Response Team is equipped with state-of-the-art detection, monitoring, and personal protective equipment. This allows us to effectively assess and manage hazardous materials incidents. In addition, our Hazardous Materials Response Team deploys with the following equipment:
- 2022 SVI Spartan Custom Walk-in Hazardous Materials Truck
- Spill Containment Trailer
- Mass Decontamination Trailer
Given the complexities of hazardous material incidents, we have expanded our capabilities by collaborating with Hazardous Materials Technicians from nine (9) neighboring departments. These technicians train and respond alongside our team, further enhancing our ability to handle hazardous materials incidents effectively and efficiently, both in the City of Greeley response area and throughout portions of Weld County.
The Hazardous Materials Response Team is deployed from Greeley Fire Station #6 located at 10603 West 20th Street.
