Home Fire Escape Plans

Does everyone in your home know how to escape in case of a fire?

Fires burn quickly nowadays! In some cases, you may have as little as 2 minutes to escape a house once a fire has started.

How do you prepare for this? Design a home fire escape plan! Look to the sidebar for a link to download your very own home fire escape plan template with some great tips on the other side.

We recommend that all homes design and practice a home fire escape plan with all their residents at least twice a year. Walk through your home and inspect all possible exits and escape routes. On your escape plan, mark two ways out of each room, including windows and doors. Also, mark the location of each smoke alarm. Practice how to escape from all the rooms in your house, even the ones you don’t think you’d normally be in. When you practice, crawl on the ground and pretend there’s smoke in the house to help you find the best ways to get out, no matter the conditions.
